[Correspondence] Postoperative nivolumab in high-risk head and neck cancer

Abstract
The NIVOPOST-OP trial has been interpreted by some as implying a systemic disease-modifying benefit of postoperative immune checkpoint inhibition in high-risk resected squamous cell carcinoma.1 However, closer examination suggests that such an interpretation warrants caution. Specifically, the available data indicate that the apparent disease-free survival benefit reflects improved locoregional tumour control rather than meaningful suppression of distant metastatic disease.
