[Correspondence] Rethinking risk factors for global dementia prevention

Abstract

The 2024 Lancet Commission on dementia prevention, intervention, and care1 provided unprecedented scientific clarity and public health impetus by identifying 14 modifiable risk factors and estimating that nearly half of dementia cases could be prevented or delayed. It made prevention understandable and actionable across the lifespan, while addressing diverse populations, rigorous risk assessment, policy change, and tailored interventions.
