Abstract
When Mangenda Kamara became pregnant as a teenager in Sierra Leone, her community and secondary school teachers made her feel “very discouraged”, she recalls. But her father, a teacher himself, always told her “not to focus on them, but to focus on what I’m going to become in the future.
